Mercury Retrograde in Aries , April 1st-25th
This would be a great time to discuss astrology as we are entering a new astrological year. I wouldn't say I study astrology consistently, but I am very observant and I pat close attention to how the planets effect me during certain times. For this retrograde coming up, Mercury will be in Aries, which is the sign ruled by Mars. Birth charts are generally divided into 12 houses that influences different areas of their lives, and Aries rules the first house. As it is also called the House of Self, it deals with physical attributes, self expression, and understanding your identity.
The term "retrograde" seems to make people nervous. It is described as the illusion of planets rotating in the opposite direction than normal. This calls for some disruption in whichever planet is retrograding, and in this case its Mercury. I understand that Mercury rules communication, intellectuality, and relationships, so during this time I am extra cautious in these areas of my life. The more I learn about astrology, the easier it is for me to navigate through retrogrades and prevent them from disrupting my peace. I give myself a lot of grace and patience so keep that in mind when it comes to yourself!
Take a step back from technology - It is good to take a break during this time, especially because all areas of communication are effected and we may experience slower technology. I spend more time reading, in nature, and organizing/cleaning.
Take extra time to understand others - I know that the planets effect everyone, so I like to be more cautious of how interact with other people and go the extra mile to understand them. This is something I strive to do on a normal basis, but the retrograde makes it more difficult to effectively communicate with one another. I find myself thinking more before I speak and allowing the other person to take the time they need to express themselves.
Journal - Things are slowing down. This is an ideal time to take a step back and reflect on my own journey. I record some goals, any discoveries I've made about myself or the world around me, and do a lot of shadow work. This is my favorite time to do shadow work actually.
SLEEP! - I am very much a night owl, but I get as much sleep as I can during the retrograde just because I know my body needs it.
Retrograde isn't something to be overwhelmed about, but it does help to be aware of the shift in energies. As I mentioned before, I am no professional, but these are the things that help me!
